MODERN
BRITISH ROCK & ROLL ACTS
THE
BASEBALLS - EDINBURGH
Three certified, out-and-out rock'n'roll singers complete
with rockabilly forelocks hail from Germany.
With three voices in perfect vocal harmony, these guys are a new evolution
of the musical heritage of Elvis, Jerry Lee Lewis, Buddy Holly & Co.
They call it "Voc'n'Roll" and with it is born The Baseballs.
Sam, Digger and Basti are permanently on the look-out for contemporary
songs that can be "rolled".
Or to quote the band, "We take good songs and lead them to their
true calling."
THE
HICKSVILLE BOMBERS - LINCOLN
I first saw these three fellas in 1995 and they blew me
away with their on-stage energy.
They are still on the go here in Lincoln. Well worth visiting their site
and having alisten to what they can do.
HI
VOLTAGE - EDINBURGH
Hi Voltage are rockabilly giants of Scotland.
Take a look at their site and sit back with your speakers turned up and
listen to the selection of songs they perform streaming through your computer.
They have some videos to look at that show a massive stage prescence.
THE
JETS
Snapped up by record company giants EMI, they achieved 9 Top Twenty
hit records and albums from 1978.
They appeared on Top Of The Pops They have been on the bill with such
artista as Sting, Boy George, Robert Plant, Right Said Fred, Cliff Richard,
Shakin' Stevens,
as well as Original '50's artists, Carl Perkins, Jack Scott, Elvis' drummer
D.J.Fontana (who actually played drums with the Jets), Charlie Gracie,
The Crickets, The Teenagers and British rockers Marty Wilde, Wee Willie
Harris and Billy Fury.
If there is a multi-cultural festival happening and a LIVE Rock'n'Roll
band
with real live Guitar, Drums(not tapes, loops, sequencers or computers)
and a Double Bass pounding away and being used as some sort of climbing
frame,
then THE JETS will be somewhere on the bill.
I saw this band in 2010 at a club in Lincoln, they were truly awesome
and great singers.
DARREL
HIGHAM
I saw this dude back in 1998 in Newark. He was doing a Eddie Cochran tribute
show.
He is most definitely thwe best there is in the business and creates amazing
guitar sounds.
He is the real thing and one of the biggest Rock and Roll acts in britain
today.
IMELDA
MAY
Born in Dublin and raised in the Liberties, may be an unknown name
to some, but to many she is already a superstar.
She
is unmistakable both in her music (a fusion of surf guitars, blues and
rockabilly that wouldn’t be out of place in a David Lynch film)
and her style, with a solitary curl and shock of blonde in her jet black
hair.
In Ireland, her debut album ‘Love Tattoo’, which she recorded
and released on her own label, has gone Triple Platinum.
She has shared a stage with U2, Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck, Van Morrison,
Scissor Sisters, Lionel Richie and, most recently, the first lady of rockabilly,
Wanda Jackson.
And now, with the release of her new album “Mayhem”, she is
about to go stellar.
MODERN
BANDS WORTH CHECKING OUT
BIG
HAND - SKA BAND
I saw this band in Gellions, Inverness and was blown away by the excellent
stage prescence and their music.
Having been a Rude boy in my younger days, I know I have every right to
rate this band as superb.
They are working hard promoting themselves and have a good chance of making
it big.
Check out their YouTube
videos.
THE DUALERS
- LONDON - SKA BAND
I saw these brothers playing in a bar on Shaftesbury Avenue in 2006 and
they are truly a unique Ska Band.
Apparently, their father was responsible for introducing the British market
to Jamaican Ska back in the 60's after hitting a slot on big time radio.
Checkout their YouTube
videos and see what I mean.

These pages are a tribute to a man who from the late 1950s, brought a
great deal of excitement into many lives. Beneath the show biz glamour,
he was a shy, gentle man who trusted people, loved nature and won the
respect and affection of everyone whose lives he touched.
That influence remains today, as Billy's fans are the nicest people you
could wish to meet.
Although his management and commercial pressures led him to become known
to the public as a balladeer, Billy Fury was Britain's number 1 rock and
roller.

Joe’s early professional musical career included playing guitar
with Johnny Cash, Gene Vincent, Eddie Cochran
and appearing with Bill Haley, Jerry Lee Lewis, Little Richard & Chuck

he was then interested in working with called The Beatles.
